Connecting Through Agriculture: From the EAT Tour to Aggie Days

by Martina Hubl

Communications and Member Engagement Coordinator

Spring has been a busy and exciting season for the Central Alberta Forage and Livestock Association (CAFLA) as we took part in several community events focused on agricultural awareness, education, and engagement. From the Rocky Trade Show to the EAT Tour and Aggie Days in Carstairs, CAFLA was proud to partner with local organizations to bring pasture management, forage knowledge, and a bit of fun to the public.

🚜 Rocky Trade Show: Partnering for Local Impact

At the Rocky Trade Show, CAFLA partnered with the Rocky Agricultural Society to host an engaging and informative booth that brought together producers, community members, and ag professionals.

Our team spoke with attendees about sustainable forage practices, grazing management, and the work CAFLA does to support local producers. The partnership with the Ag Society helped strengthen our connection with the Rocky region, and it was encouraging to see such strong interest in pasture health and livestock productivity.

🐄 EAT Tour: Grade 4 Students Become Cows for a Day

One of the highlights of our outreach season was the EAT Tour, where we had the chance to engage directly with Grade 4 students in a fun, interactive way.

In our rotational grazing demonstration, students got to pretend they were cattle rotating through different pasture paddocks. Each student selected their favorite forage and dropped their own cow patty (yes, a fake one!) to simulate grazing impact.

Through this hands-on activity, students learned about the importance of rest periods, plant recovery, and grazing distribution. It was a memorable and educational experience—and sparked plenty of laughs along the way!

🌿 Aggie Days Carstairs: Partnering for Pasture Education

At Aggie Days in Carstairs, we teamed up with the Foothills Forage and Grazing Association to deliver another great rotational grazing demo—this time using the Razor Grazer tool to simulate livestock movement.

This hands-on approach helped students and families visualize how controlled grazing can improve pasture health, reduce overgrazing, and support animal nutrition. The partnership with Foothills Forage made the booth even stronger, combining our shared knowledge and passion for sustainable land stewardship.

Moving Forward Together

These events are more than just outreach—they’re opportunities to share knowledge, spark curiosity, and strengthen the ties that connect agriculture and community. Whether we’re teaming up with local partners or helping kids discover the science behind grazing, CAFLA is proud to play a role in growing awareness and understanding of sustainable land and livestock management. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us, asked questions, and shared in the experience. We look forward to continuing these conversations—and building even stronger connections—in the months ahead.
